British monarch addresses French upper house for first time

Highlights visit to France, praises French-British relationship

King Charles III has become the first British monarch to address the French Senate, in a historic speech that highlights the close relationship between the two countries.

The King's speech, which was delivered in French, praised the "enduring friendship" between France and Britain, and highlighted the importance of cooperation on issues such as climate change and security.

"Our two nations have stood side by side for centuries, and our friendship has been forged in the fires of adversity," the King said. "We have fought together, we have worked together, and we have built a better future together."

The King's visit to France is part of a three-day state visit, which began on Wednesday with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Arc de Triomphe. The King and Queen Camilla were also guests of honor at a lavish state banquet at the Palace of Versailles.
