Man City Return to Action with a 2-1 Victory Over Brighton

First Half Heroics Secure Winning Start for 10-Man City

Despite Playing with 10 Men, City Dominate Brighton at the Etihad

Manchester City made a triumphant return to action on Wednesday with a 2-1 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion at the Etihad Stadium. Despite playing with 10 men for the majority of the match, City displayed resilience and determination to secure their first win of the post-World Cup period.

The hosts got off to a flying start when Julian Alvarez opened the scoring in the 22nd minute. The Argentine forward latched onto a through ball from Bernardo Silva and calmly slotted it past Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.

City doubled their lead just seven minutes later through Erling Haaland. The prolific Norwegian striker found himself in space inside the Brighton penalty area and made no mistake with a powerful finish.

However, City's joy was short-lived as Joao Cancelo was sent off in the 27th minute for a reckless challenge on Deniz Undav. Despite the setback, City continued to press forward and created numerous chances.

Brighton pulled one back in the second half through Leandro Trossard, but City held on for a hard-fought victory. The result moves City up to second in the Premier League table, just five points behind leaders Arsenal.
